In February 2011, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital received the “Best Practices Award” by Comprehensive Pharmacy Services (CPS).
CPS serves all hospital segments, including acute care, behavioral health, LTAC and other specialty facilities. The company’s services include every combination of pharmacy operations, from consulting to complete pharmacy management options. The award is presented to the Director of Pharmacy of the site with a score of 95% or better on CPS’ annual Operational Audit.
St. Luke’s Achieves “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” Status
and ACR Accreditation in All Imaging Modalities
St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital achieved status in June 2010 as a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” and was awarded a 3-year term of full accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in all modalities of diagnostic imaging.
The hospital’s all-digital diagnostic imaging department is now accredited by ACR in all six modalities, which include the fields of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), General, Peripheral Vascular and Breast Ultrasound, Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy and Nuclear Medicine. St. Luke’s is also is an accredited echocardiography laboratory by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
St. Luke’s Wins 2009 Five-Star Hospital Award
St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital was awarded the Texas Department of State Health Services’ “2009 Five-Star Hospital Award” designation. This prestigious award reflects the hospital’s goal to deliver the highest level of quality healthcare services and its enhanced level of women’s and children’s services with the expansion of 24 additional private rooms, nursery, and OB/GYN 24/7 hospitalist and pediatric 24/7 hospitalist coverage.
The Texas Vital Statistics 2009 Five-Star criteria for hospitals included:
- Timeliness: Completed 92% or higher of birth registration releases within five days of the birth using Texas Electronic Registrar (TER) between 01/01/09 and 09/30/09.
- Paternity: Completed the state average or higher of potential Acknowledgments of Paternity (AOP) between 10/01/08 and 09/30/09.
- Standardization: Used and distributed all pre-populated TER-generated forms.
- Training: Attended the 2008 Annual Vital Statistics Conference or one of the 2009 Regional Vital Statistics Conferences scheduled for June and July.
- ImmTrac Performance: Used the manual ImmTrac (NB-2) consent form to offer parents of newborns the opportunity to “grant” or “deny” ImmTrac consent, and submit properly completed forms for 95% of children born at your facility between 9/1/08 and 8/31/09.

Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI
St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital has received Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI from the Society of Chest Pain Centers in 2009. The Society’s accreditation process insures centers meet or exceed quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine. The hospital has integrated the industry’s best practices and newest paradigms into its cardiac care services.
The Chest Pain Center’s protocol driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.
The Chest Pain Center at St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital has been named to the list of the “100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine.
In addition, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System was also named. On this inaugural list, no other hospital or healthcare system in Houston was recognized.
Approximately 240 healthcare employers completed a survey detailing company policies, practices, benefits and demographics. Employees were asked in-depth questions in eight core areas: leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, working environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits and overall satisfaction. Based on these results, Modern Healthcare placed both St. Luke’s entities in the top 100.
